JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Migrant/ESL Tutor
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Graduate required;
2. Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred
3. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in Spanish and English, preferred 4. Previous work experience with migrant community, preferred 5. Work a flexible schedule; and, 6. Possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services
JOB GOAL: To provide tutoring services to Migrant and ESL students during the school day, after school, and during the summer. To provide tutoring service to Out of School Youth (OSY) during the summer.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Tutors students in all subject areas using ESL resources;
- Works with the student’s regular education teacher and the ESL teacher to provide appropriate interventions;
- Responds positively to student academic performance;
- Performs record keeping of all tutoring activities and student progress;
- Establishes contact and serves as liaison with agencies serving the community;
- Assists in the development and maintenance of enrichment materials for use in tutorial sessions;
- Establishes positive relationships with families to help them understand the progress of their children;
- Provides some support to migrant students identified as English Language Learners during ESL instruction;
- Serves as an advocate for migrants; and
- Performs other such duties, which may be assigned.
SALARY: TBD
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months/8 hours per day, or as determined by funding/program needs.
EVALUATION: Annually, Classified Personnel Appraisal Instrument
