JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION: Behavior Support Assistant

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma required;

  1. Knowledge of the learning styles and behavior of young children;
  2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written 

    form;

  1. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships;
  2. Ability to operate a variety of exceptional students equipment and machines;
  3. Successful experience working with exceptional students;
  4. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of 

stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion; and,

  1. Must possess the visual acuity to do extensive reading, interpret written   

    material, and transfer written to oral communication.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Children Program/Principal

 

JOB GOAL:  To provide assistance to at-risk students in the planning and implementation of behavior and social-emotional goes in the classroom.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide social skills lessons to identified at-risk students in order to proactively teach students coping skills that will lead to academic and behavioral success;
  • Implements lesson plans for individual/group social skill groups;
  • Determine students’ need for group/individual lessons, in consultation with teacher, program specialist, and EC Director;
  • Work with school staff to develop a schedule to work with identified students;
  • Maintain client confidentiality and comply with governmental laws and regulations, as well as Edgecombe County Public Schools policies and procedures relating to student confidentiality;
  • Develop a therapeutic and supportive relationship with each student assigned;
  • Assist with Positive Behavior Support initiatives, as needed;
  • Maintain and submit all required forms of student’s behavior plan, attendance, office discipline referrals, and all other required documentation;
  • Positive reinforcement for student achievement;
  • Provides clerical and technical assistance as needed to implement the program;
  • Performs related duties as assigned by At-Risk Behavior program specialist and/or Director of Exceptional Children Programs.

 

SALARY: Edgecombe County Public Schools Classified Salary Schedule

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  9 months, or as determined by funding/program needs.  

 

EVALUATION: Annually, Teacher Assistant Personnel Appraisal Instrument
