POSITION: Electrician Supervisor             

           

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid N.C. Electrical Contracting License or equivalent and combination of training experience.
  • Graduation from high school supplemented by vocational training in electrical field and five (5) years of experience in electrical maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Considerable knowledge of approved electrical methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards.

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Maintenance

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                                                         

    An employee in this class plans and supervises the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems,      equipment, and fixtures in medium to large size school systems. Work involves organizing and planning the work of the          electricians and assisting in the administration of procedures as they relate to the day-to-day operation and maintenance        of the electrical systems. The employee is expected to resolve most problems. Blueprints may accompany large installation      jobs; however, the employee is expected to draw complementary sketches, supervise, and carry work to completion.              Errors could produce serious consequences, including loss of human life and facilities. Work is performed under limited            supervision. The employee supervises groups of electrical workers.                                                                     

 

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Plans and designs proposed primary and secondary electrical installations from blueprints, sketches, or diagrams.
  • Determines the type, sizes, and quality of wires, panel boards, switch boxes, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned job.
  • Requisitions materials as needed.
  • Draws sketches for electricians to follow in repair and/or installation jobs.
  • Supervises the maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of electrical equipment in existing buildings.
  • Makes inspections to diagnose electrical trouble and assigns and supervises correction tasks.
  • Diagnoses equipment trouble and initiates corrective measures.
  • Assigns work to other employees in this class.
  • Provides training in remediation and new techniques.
  • Submits a cost estimate for materials and labor necessary for a particular job.
  • Reviews work of outside contractors for adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Recommends persons to be hired, disciplined, discharged, or promoted.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, and processes of electrical trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical instruments, apparatus, and equipment.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary for electrical work.
  • Ability to understand and work from blueprints, schematics, sketches and oral instructions.
  • Ability to plan work and to develop designs from sketches and oral instructions.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of other electricians.
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to estimate and procure materials and labor.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.

 

SALARY:  Salary Grade 67

                                   

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 months

 

EVALUATION:  Mid-year and summative evaluation completed based on daily performance of skills and expectations listed above.

        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Physical Requirements:   Must be able to use a variety of automated office equipment such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.

 

Data Conception:  Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether like or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

 

Interpersonal Communication:   Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange   information.   Includes   receiving   instructions, assignments   and/or   directions   from superiors.

 

Language Ability:   Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.   Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, charts, etc., using prescribed format.

 

Intelligence:  Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists;  to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

 

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.   Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.

 

Numerical Aptitude:   Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add, subtract,

and utilize decimals and percentages.

 

Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.

 

Motor Coordination:  Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.

 

Manual Dexterity:   Requires the ability to handle a variety of office machines, etc.   Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

 

Color Discrimination:   Does not require the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.

 

Interpersonal Temperament:    Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.

 

Physical Communication:     Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking:  expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.
