Title: Maintenance Mechanic  (Electrician)

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance

 

Basic Function:

This position is accountable to perform skilled duties in various trade areas to effectively maintain school buildings, equipment and grounds within the school system.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

 Receive oral and written work orders and review to determine type of project and general personnel skills to be used.

  • Plan project work schedules and place orders for necessary material and equipment to perform project.
  • Understand and follow safe work practices at all times.
  • Recognize and use general-purpose hand tools.
  • Operate heavy equipment.
  • To perform heavy work, exerting 100 pounds of force occasionally and 30 pounds of force frequently or constantly, to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • To work for extended periods of time in a uncontrolled environment and be exposed to very hot or cold temperatures, high levels of noise and vibration, smoke, dust and other hazards.
  • Responsible for the safe condition of all electrical systems in school system.
  • Ability to maintain proper electrical certifications.
  • To perform work on Fire Alarm systems To perform work on intercoms systems
  • To perform work on security systems
  • Perform such other duties as required by supervisor.   

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machinery including buffers, vacuum cleaners, motor vehicles, hand tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to push, pull, and carry or otherwise move objects. Physical demand requirements are for Medium Work. 

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things. 

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving and receiving instructions, assignments or directions. 

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read correspondence, reports, forms, work orders, inspection notices, manuals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, work orders, etc., according to prescribed formats. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. 

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. 

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English. 

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; and multiply and divide. 

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape. 

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using hand tools and custodial equipment. 

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. 

Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. 

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress. 

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
